At the March 14th meeting, Town Council approved an ordinance that will phase out the allowance of golf carts in Carolina Beach by the end of 2027. Effective July 1, 2023, only golf cart owners that have obtained permits in the previous calendar year may continue to renew their permit; no new permit applicants will be allowed. Effective January 1, 2028, golf carts will no longer be allowed to be driven on public streets within the corporate limits of the Town of Carolina Beach; only state registered low speed vehicles will be allowed on streets 35 mph or less.
What does this mean to current CB golf cart permittees? They can continue to renew their annual golf cart permits each year through 2027. The sunset date of December 2027 provides current golf cart owners over four years to explore equipment upgrade or purchase options.
