Planning and Zoning

The purpose of zoning regulations and districts are designed to lessen congestion in the streets; secure safety from fire, panic, and other dangers; promote health and the general welfare; provide adequate light and air; prevent the overcrowding of land; avoid undue congestion of population; facilitate the adequate provision of transportation, water, sewerage, schools, parks, and other public requirements. They have been designed with consideration given to the character of each district and its suitability for various uses, with a view toward conserving the value of buildings and property, and for encouraging the most appropriate use of land throughout the community.

Board of Adjustment
Regular monthly meetings shall be held on the third Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m.  The Board of Adjustment serves two purposes (1)   To hear and decide appeals where it is alleged there is error in any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by the zoning administrator.  (2)   To authorize variances from the terms of the ordinance that will preserve the spirit and intent of the ordinance, secure public safety and welfare, and provide substantial justice, when, owing to special conditions, literal enforcement of the strict letter of this ordinance would result in practical difficulties or unnecessary hardships.
