LeAnn Pierce



LeAnn was born and raised in neighboring Pender County.  She attended East Carolina University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and became certified in Business and Technical Communication.  She also holds a NC Real Estate Broker's license.  LeAnn moved to Carolina Beach in 1990 and is the owner of Drifter's Reef Hotel.  She has served the Town of Carolina Beach on our Board of Adjustments, Vice-Chair of Planning and Zoning Commission, Business and Economic Development Committee, Arts and Activity Committee and New Hanover County's Tourism Development Authority.  LeAnn was elected to office in November 2013 and was voted Mayor Pro Tem in January 2014.



Steve Shuttleworth

Council Member


Steve Graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University and became a licensed Real Estate Broker in Colorado and North Carolina. He worked for several Development Companies such as Colorado Coastal Development and Zephyr Development before becoming the owner and President of Shuttleworth, Inc. and broker for Shuttleworth Realty LLC. Steve has served on Community Organizations such as Colorado Springs Planning Commission, Colorado Association of Realtors Board of Directors and
Board Member of Island Montessori Charter School in addition to serving on the Carolina Beach Town Council.

    Tom Bridges

Tom Bridges


Tom Bridges was an educator in the Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools for thirty years, serving as a school psychologist for 7 years and as a principal for 23 years. Since retiring, he has served on Carolina Beach's Planning & Zoning Commission, the Freeman Park Committee, the Police Advisory Committee and the Board of Adjustments. He has also worked as a general volunteer, nest parent and sea turtle patrol for the Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Project. He is actively involved at the Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church, serving on the personnel committee and singing in the choir. He is married with two children and one granddaughter. 


Gary Doetsch

Council Member


Gary has been a Carolina Beach resident for 60 years and served 9 years on the Town Council.  In addition to his service on the Town Council, he has served on the Ports Waterway and Beach Commission and the New Hanover County Beach Communities Group. Gary lobbied New Hanover County Commission for reduced tipping fees and the NC State Legislators to establish ROT to support beach nourishment projects and tourism. Some of Gary’s other professional accomplishments include participating in inlet dredging, multiple beach nourishments and hurricane preparedness, evacuations and recoveries through multiple hurricanes. Some projects completed while he has been in office include Freeman Park, Carolina Beach Lake Park, the expansion of Town Hall to include the new Police Department, and the upgrade to the Waste Water Treatment Plant to support growth in Carolina and Kure Beaches.
